Wilpena Pound is set to open new luxury safari tent accommodation offering an authentic Outback experience under stunning South Australian skies.
Due to be opened late 2013, 15 luxury en-suited safari tents will offer guests a new ‘glamping’ experience in an exclusive area away from the main campground and Resort, but still within the Flinders Ranges National Park set amongst river red gums, native pines and abundant wildlife.
The luxury safari camp will allow guests to experience Outback camping, but with a few of life’s luxuries included.
Each tent will be 4.2m x 6.0m in size and made from insulated canvas, offering zip king beds (for doubles and twins) with luxurious linen and bedding, bedside tables and lamps, a gas fire heater for the colder months and a ceiling fan. The en-suite bathrooms will include a vanity, shower and luggage store plus a separate toilet.
A deck will be constructed at the front of the tents to allow guests to enjoy the late afternoon light on the spectacular rock formations of the Flinders Ranges while no doubt enjoying a glass of fine South Australian wine.
Allowing guests to experience outback camping with a touch of life’s luxuries, the tents will also offer quality amenities, daily room servicing, hair dryers, power outlets, reading lamps, but no televisions - allowing guests to really switch off and relax.
The canvas camp lodge will comprise a small kitchen, bar, relaxation area and open dining for up to 30 people. Guests will be able to gather for sundowners around an open fire prior to their evening meals, and enjoy traditional Australian damper bread and ‘billy’ tea.
Guests can enjoy a range of touring options to explore the region including guided walks and 4WD excursions into the area. Air Wilpena also offers scenic flights over the Pound and as far as Lake Eyre.
The building of the new safari tents will commence in June 2013. This will be the first major upgrade to the property since it was purchased by Indigenous Business Australia in 2012 and is supported by two substantial Government grants, from the Commonwealth Government Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund, and the South Australian Government Tourism Development Support
