Q. Where can one have meals at Wilpena Pound Resort
A We have a fully licenced a la carte restaurant, a bistro bar that serves over-the-counter meals and at the General Store, light food such as pies, pasties, cakes and sandwiches can be purchased.

Q. Do I need a 4WD drive to get to Wilpena Pound Resort?
A. No, there is a choice of 3 main all sealed roads. Even the
roads beyond Wilpena Pound are suitable for conventional vehicles
at most times. Always check road conditions particularly when towing or after
rain, at Wilpena Pound Resort Visitors Information centre. Take a tour in one of our 4WD vehicles to get the best experience or even experience the 4WD driving on a Tag along.
Q. Is it ever too hot or too cold to visit?
A. The Flinders Ranges does enjoy a range of temperatures, typical of most of Australia. Even in summer months it is generally cool of a morning and evening, ideal for walking or flying. The winter mornings and nights are cool and campfires are in demand if you are outdoors, but even at this time of the year the generally dry conditions make it superb for adventure based ativities.
Q. Is the Resort in the Pound?
A. The Resort is located on the only access point just outside Wilpena Pound. This historic location on Wilpena Creek provides the walking way into the Old Hills Homestead and lookouts.
Q. Will there be a lot of wildlife to see at the Resort?
A. Yes, you will see kangaroos grazing on the front lawn and plenty in the bush. You will also see euros, yellow footed rock wallabies in Brachina Gorge, an hour's drive away, and a large variety of birds.
Q .I am interested in Geology and wonder what I can expect to find
A. The Flinders Ranges are ancient outback mountains - 600-1800 millions years old - some of the oldest landmass on the earth. This is the Flinders Ranges National Park. Fossils can be seen in Brachina Gorge.
Q .What can I expect to see in the Flinders?
A. Spectacular scenery - majestic mountains and gorges ... vibrant colours ...home to nearly half of south Australia's 3100 plant species.
Q .What type of accommodation do you offer?
A. We have backpacker accommodation, motel style, deluxe and self contained deluxe units. We also have permanent tents and powered and unpowered campsites. Accommodation to suit all budgets.
Q. What facilities do you offer
A. Restaurant, bistro, Bar, general store catering for most everyday needs,takeaway food such as sandwiches, pies and pasties, souvenirs, car fuels, internet cafe, ATM and Visitor Information Centre.
Q. Are there any Aboriginal Paintings or Rock Carvings nearby?
A. Rock carvings can be seen at Sacred Canyon an hour's drive from the Resort. Paintings can be seen at Arkaroo Rock, a short drive and walk from the Resort. There are other Aboriginal paintings and carvings at Chambers Gorge and on the southern side of Hawker.
Q. What activities are there in the area?
A .Bushwalking is one of the main activities. There are walks to suit everyone, from short strolls to 8 hour hikes. The Heysen Trail runs through the area so a night at Wilpena Pound Resort is a good break. The Mawson Trial (cycling trail) passes nearby.
Q. I only have two days so what do you suggest I do to maximise my visit?.
A. A Scenic flight over Wilpena Pound is a must. A 4WD tour would be my next priority with perhaps a walk into Wilpena Pound if time permitted.
