Photography Workshop - Wilpena Pound Resort

9 - 13 April 2010

Wilpena Pound, located in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, is a natural amphitheatre of mountains 17km long by 7km wide. Shaped by the weathering and uplifting of land over millennia, this extraordinary landscape is 800 million years old and has been home to the Aborigines, in particular the Adnyamthanha people, for tens of thousands of years. It has a rich Dreamtime and geological history, with Aboriginal rock art found at Sacred Canyon and Arkaroo Rock, as well as impressive fossil remains in the area.

The Flinders Ranges National Park encompasses spectacular scenery and is home to nearly half of South Australia’s 3100 plant species. In this semi-arid ecosystem, plants and animals of conservation significance abound.

Join landscape and documentary photographer, Grenville Turner, as you explore this remarkable landscape that inspires all who visit. It is a dream for photographers and artists alike with an unwavering beauty that has graced innumerable canvasses throughout the years.

Staying at Wilpena Pound Resort on the banks of Wilpena Creek you can enjoy a haven of hospitality that blends effortlessly into the landscape. By day, share your walking trail with kangaroos and emus; at sunset, absorb the colours of the outback with a great S.A. wine and relax with a delicious meal.
