Our scenic flight pilots report that Lake Eyre is showing us a variety of colours and wildlife this month. The photo shows you the current situation in Belt Bay. It is about 1.5m at its deepest point and glowing pink due to the current high salt content and algae. The waters here are uninhabitable but further north above Delahunty Island you will find fish filled waters with thousands of Pelicans and Banded Stilts (see our February Lake Eyre blog).
The lower Warburton is full as the Macumba is flowing nicely. The Coongie Lakes are full and Queensland rains have given the Diamantina a fresh burst. We expect the lake to fill more and more in the coming weeks.
Scenic flights over Lake Eyre are available daily from Wilpena Pound Resort start at $985 per person.
