Welcome to our Country

Discover the natural beauty of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges on foot. Explore the diverse and striking landscape of Adnyamathanha Country from one of many walking trails surrounding Wilpnea Pound Resort.

Short walks

Travellers seeking a more leisurely pace can head west along Wilpena Creek to the much-photographed Cazneaux Tree, or wend their way towards Hills Homestead, venturing off to the Wangarra Lookouts for spectacular views across the landscape. And of course, there’s the walk to Old Wilpena Station, a must-do for an inspiring dose of history and native scenery.

Longer hikes

For adventure lovers, take the full day hike towards St Mary Peak, the highest point in the Flinders Ranges. Climb the rocky inclines to the stunning Mount Ohlssen Bagge, or observe the adaptive nature of the region’s bushland on Drought Busters Hike. Edeowie Gorge is another gem to discover, especially following rain when the waterfalls are flowing.

Key Bushwalking Information

Maps and trail brochures are available at the Visitor Information Centre or online. Enjoy exploring on a self guided walk, or join one of our walking tours led by an Adnyamathanha guide to hear the stories of this ancient land and spot some bush tucker as you explore on foot.

Online trail maps:

St Mary Peak is central to the Adnyamathanha creation story. The Adnyamathaha people of the Flinders Ranges ask that visitors respect their culture and the heritage of the area by not ascending the summit of the peak.

If you’re planning to go bush walking, please let a responsible person know your route and your expected return time. Mobile phone coverage is not reliable in the National Park, particularly in remote areas and where the terrain is steep.
